LinkedIn Marketing: 5 Simple Steps to Do It

August 13, 2014 by James Seymour

LinkedIn marketingLinkedIn is more than just an online resume platform. While you can connect to professional networks using the social networking site, you can also create a brand page for your company of business and engage in LinkedIn Marketing. Here are 5 simple but effective ways on how to take advantage of LinkedIn to connect to your potential customers and advertise your products and/or services.

#1: Share valuable content

LinkedIn is mostly composed of professionals, brand owners, and company CEOs and executives. Unlike members belonging to Facebook and Twitter demographics, these people are interested in real news and stories that stir up their interest. Thus, share content that are of high value and interest to them. Publish posts that are useful, informative, and unique. This way, they can tag you as an influencer and will follow you or your brand for more useful content.

#2: Make your profile interesting

Set up a profile that’s truthful and interesting. Add photos that attract followers and fill out your bio with accurate information. Do not exaggerate. People want to connect with real people, so be sure that you are not there to impress but to express.

#3: Join discussion groups

LinkedIn features discussion groups where people with common interest can join and discuss with one another. This is a good opportunity for you to promote your brand without selling it too hard. Discussion groups enable brand owners and influencers to publish content, provide advice, and simply share insights about particular topics that the group is interested in.

#4: Develop relationships rather than simply growing your connections

It is easy to connect to other people through LinkedIn, especially if you know them from a certain company or had connected with them in the past. However, more important than this is to establish relationships with them by sending and replying to messages, liking and responding to their posts, and interacting with them. When you are able to develop a strong relationship with these people, it would be easy for them to put their trust on you or on what you have to say about your brand.

#5: Take advantage of LinkedIn sponsored updates

If you want to get noticed right away, go for sponsored updates. This may come with a cost, but you’ll be known in no time. Sponsored updates provide a better way to put your content in front of key influencers and decision makers on LinkedIn. Moreover, with the help of analytics, you can easily measure which of your sponsored updates work best for you and your brand.

Thus, if you think LinkedIn is not the proper platform for your online marketing strategies, think again. It might just be the best place to promote your business.
