Do-It-Yourself SEO Tips

August 21, 2014 by James Seymour

DIY SEO tipsWhile professional SEO firms can really help you increase your visibility online and improve your search rankings, there are also do-it-yourself SEO strategies that you can take advantage of and do on your own. Below are some DIY SEO tips that can help individuals and small business owners who have limited technical knowledge.

Get keyword ideas from customers and competitors

If you have no idea how keyword research is done, your customers and competitors can actually help you do so. From customers, you can ask them what words and phrases do they type in on Google to get to websites similar to yours. From competitors, you can browse through their site and identify the words and phrases that they use on the website’s title, article headings, and those that are highlighted in bold or italic format.

You can then use these words and phrases as your target keywords that you can implement on your website.

Do basic on-page optimisation

Don’t be afraid. You won’t need so much technical knowledge and skills to do this. The idea is to use the keywords you have identified to relevant parts of your website, including the title tag, meta descriptions, headers, body, links, and footer. For more ideas and tips on how to do basic on-page SEO, click here.

Produce great and fresh content

The best way to do this is to install a blog section on your website and publish content on a regular basis. This way, search engines will find your website regularly updated, which they actually prefer.

Reach out to bloggers and influencers

Link building is an essential part of SEO. If you have no idea how to get started with this, the easiest way is to talk to influential bloggers, discuss with them what your business is about and how your products or services can help web users, and ask them to blog about it and link to your website. This way, the readers and followers of their blogs can discover your website and learn more about your brand or business.

Search engine optimisation should not be as challenging as you think. With these DIY SEO tips, you should be able to get started.
