Dealing with Social Media Writer’s Block

September 29, 2014 by James Seymour

social media writer's blockSocial media marketing is supposed to be fun, exciting, and less serious compared to other internet marketing skills such as search engine optimisation, paid advertising, and email marketing where you have to follow a lot of rules and technical guidelines. However, when you suffer from writer’s block, social media marketing becomes a bit challenging. Here is a how you can deal with social media writer’s block.

Make social media fun and natural

Some internet marketers dread social media because they don’t know how to sell hard and be aggressive on social media platforms. The key to succeeding social media, however, is that you don’t need to be pushy or aggressive to make a sale or generate conversions. Instead, you need to be friendly, fun, and natural when handling social media accounts. Your customers need to know that there are actual human beings behind the brand they are following. Thus, when it comes to messaging, think about what you’d want your customers to hear. Be witty, cheerful, and engaging.

Get inspiration

Watch related videos, look at your competitors’ social media pages, and follow other pages of similar niche. This way, you would have an idea what to write, as well as what keeps followers engaged and interested. Set aside a time when you can brainstorm about the messages you want to publish on your social media accounts. Do your research, as well, and get inspiration from your favourite news and article websites.

Ask feedback

The good thing about social media is you can interact with your followers and customers. Thus, you have the opportunity to ask them what they want to get from your page, such as daily advice, tips, news, promos, or featured products. You may also get this information without asking them directly. From the insights of your page, you can easily identify what kind of posts are most liked, commented, or discussed about.

Be yourself

Although you are promoting a brand or a business, your social media messaging should reflect you as a person and not as brand. Share you emotions or express your opinions like any other person and avoid sounding like an automated robot programmed to produce generic messages. It would help to share quotations, pictures, greetings, and other personal messages on your page once in a while to entertain your followers and make them trust you more.

Social media writer’s block should not hinder you from managing your page effectively. By following these guidelines, you are on your way to producing engaging messages that your followers will surely love and appreciate.
