Just recently, SearchMetrics, one of the top market leaders in internet marketing and search analytics, announced their 2014 SEO ranking factors study to guide webmasters and internet marketing specialists all over the world.
SearchMetrics does the study every year, but this year’s is by far the largest study they have done. According to Marcus Tober, founder of SearchMetrics, content – more than anything else – is the main focus of SEO.

Content has always been king
I don’t think this is surprising news though. Ever since the start, search engines favour websites with great, relevant, and fresh content. While keywords, backlinks, and other technical aspects are important, it has been said time and again that content is king and holistic, context-based approach is crucial for content quality.
In fairness to SearchMetrics, they have listed down a number of other search factors that can and will affect the rankings of websites, such as:
- technical performance and page architecture;
- proportion of keywords and links on a content;
- social media integration; and
- user signals (a new ranking factor)
