Penguin 2.0 has rolled out. You can take it as threatening news but you can also think of it as a corrective wave. Matt Cutts, the head of Google’s Webspam team, has been quite instructive in his latest video about how SEO in coming months will shape up.
The Panda and the Penguin updates remain clear priority of Google and through them the master search engine wants to cast away the “rotten apples” of the virtual domain.
Here’s the video with Matt Cutts:
Google to reward authority sites
A point worth noticing about Cutts’ video is Google’s take on authority sites. Sites which provide a fair amount of quality content in their niche are to be rewarded with better rankings. This way, they will be more easily accessible to the users.
Google has always been quite vocal about its preference for good, organic content. Now, it is likely to ensure that quality information on a website is not bypassed accidentally (or due to protocols) by its algorithms.
An example to prove the importance of content-rich sites
As a user, you would have suffered many times due to the lack of quality content on sites you visited. Let us take an example: suppose, you are searching for a natural remedy for the Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. You may come across hordes of websites offering a rough answer; a few will be close to the mark too. That being said, you will fall short of getting a precise answer somehow.
Maybe, somewhere on the 6th or 7th page of search results there is a website which offers a brilliant answer to the question (not only the above question, may be it provides consistently good information) but is yet to make its mark on Google.
Reading the above instance, you can understand two things:
- Rewarding authority sites with better rankings can help users search a lot better (less number of frustrated users)
- Content, the proverbial king, is likely to be a real king in near future- powerful and organic content is implied here.
Content can solve the traffic dilemma
As a business owner, you would give your right arm to get web traffic rushing your way. After all, it is a sound way of getting prospective clients. Does it not become your duty then to get yourself a content-driven website?
Your website should not keep talking about your feats or perhaps how skilled you are but should aim to give quality information to the readers.
Provide industry specific news to readers
Readers would anyway get to know how great you are because ‘word of mouth’ is a powerful tool. Instead, providing them unique information about subject of their interest would prove priceless. Ideally, you should concentrate on industry specific news, tips and advice.
